The 100-Mile Diet is 2008 One Book, One Community reading selection

KITCHENER -- The 100-Mile Diet was unveiled as the 2008 One Book, One Community reading selection at the Farmers' Market Saturday.

The book is Canadian couple's attempt to eat foods grown within a 100-mile radius of their Vancouver apartment.

It is written by Alisa Smith and James MacKinnon.

"It's a warm memoir that will inspire change," said Angela Caretta, chair of the steering committee of One Book, One Community.

A number of events are planned around the book, including a meet-the-authors gathering in September.

One Book, One Community began in 2001 to promote reading among adults, and to build new community connections through the shared experience of reading.

It's organized by library staff, booksellers, city staff and volunteers.
