CAMBRIDGE — For the second time in two days, police have shut down a large marijuana grow operation concealed in a suburban home.
The latest bust took place just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at 73 Delavan Dr. in the city’s south end.
Officers with the Waterloo Regional Police drug branch entered the home with a search warrant and seized more than 900 plants, worth nearly $1 million, as well as growing equipment.
The owners of the grow operation had by-passed the hydro and water meters, said Sgt. Mark Morrissey of the drug branch.
The operation had a similar set up to a $1.2 million dollar grow dismantled on Granite Hill Drive Tuesday day and four other residental grows discovered in the Doon South neighbourhood of Kitchener earlier this year.
The home was empty when police arrived for the search Wednesday morning and no arrests have been made.
Cambridge hydro cut off power to the home and city crews were on hand to assess the damage to the water meter.
Neighbours said people moved into the home in August, but no one ever saw a moving truck and no garbage was ever left on the curb on pick up day.
Police are asking anyone with information on this or any other suspected grow operation to call the drug branch at (519) 650-8500 ext. 8612 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
