CAMBRIDGE—A fire that burned through children’s playground equipment is under investigation.

Shortly after midnight, Cambridge firefighters were called to Churchill Park on Water Street after someone reported the Rocket Ship play equipment was on fire.

A hole was burned through a plastic tunnel on the climbers and a garbage can containing smoldering material was found nearby, Waterloo Regional Police said.

The area was closed to allow for repairs. Police said no one has reported any injuries.
