Chrysler LLC says it will cut 1,000 salaried jobs worldwide by Sept. 30, and it's expected that those cuts will affect the company's Canadian operations.
Chrysler says the layoffs -- announced yesterday in a letter to employees -- are needed because of the prolonged slump in the U.S. auto industry.
The move will likely have some impact for salaried Chrysler employees in Canada, but it's not certain at this point how many might lose their jobs.
There are about 1,000 salaried Chrysler employees in Canada.
