DUBLIN, CALIF.

Communications software company Sybase Inc. once again surpassed Wall Street expectations and raised its outlook for the year as it released second quarter results yesterday. The company's profits grew to $32.4 million, or 37 cents per share, up 24 per cent from $26 million, or 28 cents per share, during the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 15 per cent to $282.7 million from $245 million. The company employs about 250 people at its iAnywhere Solutions subsidiary in Waterloo. Sybase chief executive John Chen said the company has now delivered three consecutive record quarters, and this is the fourth quarter that exceeds Wall Street consensus on revenue. Chen attributed the strong performance to the growing market for its database, mobile messaging and other services.
